I had tried using Astrotortilla two years ago and was completely unsuccessful and eventually forgot about it. However, off late I read an article on EQMOD and that article once again lead me to Astrotortilla and "How good it is, blah blah blah". Once again I downloaded Astrotortilla as well as the related database based on the widest field of view and my narrowest FoV. One may note that the databases downloaded from Astrometry website are the 42xx.Fits series. Emphasis on the 42xx part. I installed the software using the simply superb instructions by Lightvortex Astronomy. Connected to EQMOD using my new homemade EQDIT TTL2102 connector. Selected M45 as the target image and clicked "Capture and Solve". No luck, the standard message "Field 1 did not solve in 405s" . Wow!. So my dear wife (who is a software engineer) googled for the error and Bingo! there is a reference on Cloudynights forums about the same 42xx database being incorrect. The required database is 41xx.fits. I downloaded this set, removed the 42xx files and tried again. All is working well now. Phew! That concludes my obligatory Astronomy work for Sunday. :)
AuthorI have made this website for the welfare of the Human kind interested in knowing more about the Universe outside of Earth. :) I shall keep it up to date with any information I feel relevant to astronomy. Archives
